Midem reveals more details about the new march single

This march is going to be an exciting month for Imogen Heap fans. As we've discussed earlier, the next single in Imogen Heap's collection is going to be 'crowd sourced'. While we've speculated what that may imply - midem, a show for musicians and studios to discuss ideas, has revealed a bit more about the plans. In a interview with Immi and Damian Kulash (from OK Go!) they discussed a few topics but one bit that stood out:In March, Heap is planning another event, where she’ll aim to write a song online with the help of her fans over the course of a week. They’ll submit audio clips, lyrics and videos, which Heap will then use as the basis for a song. “We’re planning to do one every three months,” she said.So audio clips, lyrics, and videos... excited!

Crowd sourced song to be done in March (and new gloves)

Immi has let slip a few more details about a new song idea for March. This could be the single that was mentioned earlier or could be something else. The plan would be a crowd sourced song, this would mean the fans will help infulence the song. There are many different ways that she could approach this, and I'm intruiged to see her spin on things.Maybe people could submit samples to Immi? Maybe it's a case of selecting a key and tempo, similar to the recent improvs. One group that recently did something similar was Enigma and their 'Social Song'. They did the song design in stages with fans voting for different elements of the song. First was a vocal competition, followed by they type of song (slow, anthem or ballad), a key instrument was chosen and finally fans got to design the cover. It was a good experience and fans got to feel like they were kept in the loop with demo samples and updates. It finished with a free download of the song. It was a great experience but I hope Immi takes it a step further. Immi also mentioned some excitement about a glove. This may seem very weird on it's own, unless it was particularly cold and this was a wonderfully warm and fluffy glove... however... pair it with @teamaxe's tweet 'Back from the eastside @imogenheap was digging the gestural music tool I am currently building for her' and you start to see what's going on.Looks like come May you might see immi being able to control her instruments with literally a flick of a wrist and clicking a few fingers. Can't wait to see that.

Bob Dylan is also to appear at the Singapore festival which is taking place on the F1 track. We're not the only ones to wonder what a collab between Immi and Bob Dylan would be like... it's unlikely to happen, but who knows right?Date for the Rock & Roots show in Singapore is the 15th and 16th April at the Marina Promenade. More information hereDate for the Grassroots Festival in Manukau, the Puhinui Reserve, New Zeland is the 23rd and 24th April.
Imogen Announces a New Film Project

On the heels of a recent tweet from Imogen regarding the immi-nent fruition of a 20 year-old dream, please be sure to check out her newest project, "Love The Earth," a collaborative film project that needs YOUR help to come to life. Partnering with social greentrepreneur (entregreeneur?) and Renaissance man Thomas Ermacora, Imogen plans to use video footage of the natural world shot by citizens just like you to incorporate into a film she'll debut on November 5th (of this year) at the Royal Albert Hall. Imogen will be writing an original five-movement score to accompany the film, which will be performed by an orchestra of friends and fans (about which she promises further details later), and which will eventually be released as an official soundtrack to the film. Please watch the video and read the letter Imogen wrote regarding the project (which includes details about the kind of footage she's looking for), then fire up your camcorder, camera, or your phone, get yourself outside and show off what makes your corner of the world so beautiful and special. The deadline for submissions is midnight EST September 26. Good luck!

Richie, who played for both Cable and The Lucky Nine (among others) and helped Imogen out on "Speak For Yourself" and "Ellipse," released his debut album "Decader" as Mills on March 29 (of this year), writing, playing guitar, and taking lead on vocals. Take a gander of them here in "Remember Me?", and read some nice reviews of the album here and here. Support the band by buying the album, then play it really, really loud, over and over again. You won't be sorry, promise. P.S. Check out this faux-puking video while you're at it, because faux-puking is always, ALWAYS funny. P.S.S.

As mentioned by Kelly earlier on Twittah, all of Imogen's charity improvs have been added to the Charity page and eagerly await being downloaded by you. Each song is different and unique, and can be yours for as little as a buck, but because 100% of all proceeds are being donated to worthy local charities, more is always appreciated. Each is available ONLY for two months following its release, and is offered in either a "trimmed" version (which includes only the song), or a "full" 2-track live EP (which includes audience participation) version. Also, if you can talk up the improvs and the idea behind them with, say, a local newspaper or blogger or other newsy-type outlet, additional exposure would be great, and much appreciated. immi's set a pretty lofty goal ($54,000 in a fairly short period of time) and has a ways to go to get there, but if every person who attended one of the North American shows would donate just a dollar, she'd be one dollar per person closer to that goal.

Though many links are broken, and the updates pretty much stop once Frou Frou kicks in in 2002, there's still a wealth of information to discover and enjoy, including reviews of '98-'99 Stateside iMEG gigs, pictures, interviews, and a pretty sweet discography. It's interesting to compare/contrast those old reviews with current reviews, because not only do you see a lot of similarities between the immi then and the immi now, but you also see, pretty quickly, that immi is one of those people who's loved pretty devotedly by fans regardless of the album, or the decade.

Everything In Between description

DavidB noticed on the official forums that there is now an official product description of the upcoming imogen heap DVD that can be preordered here. Really can't wait to watch this one!Filmed over three years and compiled from 371 hours of footage, Everything In-Between: The Story Of Ellipse follows one of music s most creative and inventive artists as she brings to life her most creative and inventive album.Following the success of 2005's Grammy nominated album Speak For Yourself, British musical phenomenon Imogen Heap decamped to Maui, Hawaii in spring 2007 to start writing her third solo album. With only a video camera for company, she began recording her adventures, thoughts and song ideas, and when she returned to the UK nine weeks later found that she had not only the start of an album, but the beginnings of a captivating film about its making. She invited friend and film maker Justine Pearsall to continue documenting everything that followed: from her return to live in the house where she grew up; building a state of the art studio in her childhood playroom; the evolution of the songs; the excitement of recording a myriad of bizarre sounds and noises, to the tears, frustration and late nights trying to piece them together into the magical songs she hears in her head, and from the isolation of her studio to the frantic activity of video shoots and rehearsing for the accompanying tour, every inch of Ellipse is here.Including interviews with the people who know her best and a disarmingly candid running commentary from Imogen herself, Everything In-Between is part making of, part intimate diary confessional. A rare, inspiring and intimate insight into the life and times of a breathtaking album and a truly unique and exceptional artist. (source)

Sorry things have been quiet as of late, there is a reason... but more on that later. Last night Immi tweeted a message that showed light on the struggling world of an artist; especially one such as immi where she tries hard to do as much as she possibly can as a one man band and keep a high level of quality. The guardian has a pretty level look at what was said (although I suggest avoiding the comments!). It also looks at the other financial hardships Immi has faced durin her musical career. The idea that venues are making it really expensive for performers and fans seems completely counter-intuative especially in this climate. Either way, how can you help? Buy the albums and tracks, espcially digital downloads get a lot of money (well at least a higher percentage) to immi. If you've downloaded a copy of the album and you're yet to actually buy that download... support the artists you like and buy!How else would you suggest a fix?Should immi have a donation area?

After the recent few postponed gigs, it was unclear if Immi would be able to perform at Sheperds Bush Empire in London last night. Even if she did it was going to be hit or miss if she'd be able to do justice for her songs. Immi performed, and she did spot on. It was an amazing gig. While starting off slightly rocky, the show was packed full of hits which were performed very well. It really shows how much dedication she has for her fans. Well done to her...Last night a song was made up on the spot, details of the song were made up on the spot by the audience. The key was C#minor, timing 3/4 and starts off with a similar vocal effect to Hide and Seek. The track was recorded then and there, with it being mixed today and hopefully released tonight. It will cost £1 and all the proceeds will go to Great Ormond Street hospital. A hospital that saved Immi's leg when she was a baby (we were shown the scar that was left over from the procedure). We'll post when the song is up.On top of that last night was recorded professionally. Maybe this is for the Ellipse making of DVD? Finally a few details about the Royal Albert Hall show (on November 5th), a poll will be put up allowing the fans to pick their favourite tracks to be performed. I'm already thinking of doing a campaign for Glittering Cloud... (Come Here Boy would be a nice addition too). There will be no opener band at the show, however immi is going to write a piece for a full orchestra to perform. This will open the show and be a wonderful lead into the gig. I'll try upload some pictures from the night soon. Oh and expect a major update to CoverMeInInk soon

Last night Immi went to the grammys. As ever, her original style could not be outdone; wearing an amazing outfit that responded to tweets and images sent to her. Her handbag displayed the images and a large collar showed the latest tweets spiraling around her neck (hope to get some pictures up soon). The outfit let the fans feel excited and part of the action (she always loves to include us!) something that you can rarely say about an outfit! The undoubted highlight of the night though goes to Immi winning the grammy for 'Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical'. An amazing achievement and a great reward for all the hardwork put into Ellipse. Well done Immi! Will try to get some pictures of the event up this evening!

Imogen heap has always attracted fan remixes, especially trance and dance versions of her songs. Most of these are simple beats applied to Hide and Seek, with a touch of limited imagination. One remixer has always suprised, even if they are 'unofficial' the remixes produced by Royal Sapien are great if you like to add a touch of dance to your immi listening session. In the past he has treated us to remixes of Have You Got It In You (Royal Sapien's Summer in NYC Remix), The Walk (Royal Sapien Dub), and Hallalujah (Royal Sapen Crobar Remix)...The newest remix on their website is Little Bird (Royal Sapen Remix) and it can be downloaded for free off his website. It's one of his best treaments of an Immi song. Check it out, it will have you jumping round the room. While you're at it you can also download the Hallalujah remix too! All in 320kbps!Click here and look on the right under Discography, and DANCE!Thanks once again to Lee for poking me in the right direction for it!

Immi is working towards having a/some bsides for the First Train Home single. At the current time though, Immi is too tired from recording Ellipse to jump back into the studio. So the crafty woman that she is, she's come up with a plan. Her latest twitters suggest this: Immi wants her fans to scout three locations where there is a piano that she can play. She would then write the pieces on the day. People can come in, be 'flies on the wall' or it was even suggested she may get people to help make noises for her. She may also record ambience from the location to weave into what she records. So now she's asking fans (the world over) of a piano that needs an Immi. A page is currently being set up by her wonderful 'minions' that you can post your piano location ideas, photos and dates. Idea being that it gives immi a break, and she gets to travel fun places. So get your thinking caps on!

Bad Ellipse review at ContactMusic

All the good reviews that have been going around were bound to have their negative counterparts. ContactMusic has put up a very negative review of Ellipse, in which they call it "just plain dull from start to finish". They also call Imogen's production "cheap and full of gimmicks", going on to say that "so many tracks on Ellipse sounds like they're geared up for being background music for soppy scenes in teen dramas". I won't judge them for the very obvious grammar error in that sentence, but I would like to remark that it's a little unfair to judge an entire album, based solely on an intolerance of the TV shows the songs on it may or may not appear on in the next few years.Furthermore, they quote the song 'Want It Out' as an example of "churning out the usual age old clichés of a ballad".Check out the article at ContactMusic.

A little report on a few current events:Another eBay promo was put up on eBay pre-release. Replenish New Media, the company that handles most of Imogen's online venues, such as her website, the Heapwire twitter page, ... has had it taken down now. Secondly, the Heaptweets twitter channel posted this message earlier:"We're still waiting on 16 tweet biog winners to get in touch - you've all been DM'ed or @'ed, so please get in touch ASAP!"The message caused a bit of confusion, so we'll clear it up. The "you've all been DM'ed or @'ed" part, is directed toward those 16 winners whose details they don't have yet. So as of yet, no one has gotten the confirmation DM. We'll report on it as soon as those DM's come through!

Customers of Amazon UK, who are buying the Deluxe Edition of Ellipse there, are reporting that Amazon is cancelling their orders.quote:"We regret to report that the following item is no longer available. However, we have learned that an alternative edition is available: Ordered item: Imogen Heap "Ellipse" Substitute: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0028Y5MY0"(Quote taken from iBabble poster Trevulate)Also, HMV's listing for Ellipse's deluxe edition states that the item has been deleted.Obviously, the Deluxe Edition is still happening. If not a release by Epic/RCA Victor, then a release by Megaphonic Records (for which a pre-order will be available on Imogen's official website soon). However, we think that the deleting of the listing is simply a result of Epic and RCA Victor (the record companies distributing Ellipse worldwide) not being able to provide the deluxe edition on the 24th/25th, as has been stated by Imogen herself before. Most likely, the listing will return once a new release date has been set for the deluxe edition.

Last night Imogen Heap did an hour long ustream video (which strangely has vanished from the site) that discussed the current plans of the delux, vinyl and standard editions of Ellipse. Obviously we're still a month away, so things could change...northernlad55 wrote down some notes during the show and has shared them with us. The Standard (Jewel Case) Edition- Cost roughly $11 (£7.00)- 13 tracks- Pictures in the inlay for each songThe Delux (Hardcover) EditionDue to extra costs involved with the creation of the hardback edition, Immi has decided to include a second CD, containing all the instrumentals. You will be able to purchase this version direct from immi's website.- Cost rougly $21 (£13.00)- 13 track album- 13 track instrumental album- Hardback cover for pictures of each songThe Vinyl EditionThis version will not be out until christmas this year. Idea for content currently includes:- Vinyl version of the album- DVD (making of?)- Photos- A Heap Pass (a way of getting to the front of a queue at a gig)Remember this all could change, but some great bits of info there!

I (Mitholas) did manage to succesfully buy the track on my iTunes store, but others seem to have also had trouble with the download itself. We will post a news update when we know it's fixed, should you want to wait with your purchase.

Immi is obviously very upset over someone who inspired her through childhood and was excited at the prospect of seeing him live at the O2.Whatever your view on this entertainer, there was no doubt that he became part of our culture and will be remember for a long time.To find out more about Immi's love for Micheal Jackson click here to check out the recent Thrillercast podcast that she did a few months back to celebrate the 25th anniverary (and rerelease) of Thriller.
